MANILA, Philippines — There are now more than 53,000 active COVID-19 cases in the country following the detection of 6,871 new infections, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Saturday.

In its COVID-19 bulletin, the DOH said there are 53,447 active COVID-19 cases in the country, with the total infections standing at 1,391,911.

The DOH likewise reported 8,720 new recoveries and 92 new deaths. This brought the total number of recoveries and deaths to 1,314,220 and 24,244, respectively.

Of the active cases, the DOH said 89.4 percent are mild, 5.7 percent are asymptomatic, 2 percent are severe, 1.44 percent are moderate, and 1.4 percent are critical.

In its bulletin, the DOH noted that 13 duplicates were removed from the total case count—of these, 10 are recoveries.

Moreover, 45 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, and 53 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
