Pangilinan eyes Senate reelection in 2022

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Francis Pangilinan on Tuesday said he is eyeing reelection to the Senate in the upcoming elections in 2022.

“That’s the plan,” Pangilinan told reporters in an online interview when asked if he will be running for the Senate again in 2022.

“I have one more term. I am on the first term of my second—sabihin na nating [let’s say my] second round,” he added.

According to Pangilinan, he wants to continue finding solutions to the challenges hounding the country’s agriculture and fisheries sector as well as food security.

“We hope we can continue to champion the agriculture, the plight and the cause of the farmers and our fisherfolk and rural development. If we want to address poverty and hunger, modernizing our agriculture and fisheries is key,” the senator said.

“We will never reach developed nation status unless we address and modernize, up the income for our farmers and fisherfolk and we will never achieve addressing hunger when those who produce our food and those who catch our fish are unable to feed themselves,” he added.

Pangilinan, president of the Liberal Party, also said the party is making efforts to reach out to prospective candidates such as Senators Panfilo Lacson, Nancy Binay, and Joel Villanueva as well as Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno.

“We really need unity and we really need to come together to provide solutions dito sa mga pagsubok na hinaharap natin [to these problems we are facing],” Pangilinan further said.
