Homicide case filed vs son-in-law of ex-lawmaker over killing of boyfriend

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City prosecutors’ office has lodged a homicide case against the son-in-law of former solon Nanette Castelo-Daza for the shooting of the lawmaker’s boyfriend at the Daza house last week.

Assistant City Prosecutor Solivan Usman filed the charges Monday before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court as he recommended a P40,000 bail for Allan Robes, a Bulacan official.

This is as the family and lawyer of the slain Noel Orate insisted that the charge of murder be filed against Robes.

Orate, 55, was shot dead inside the Daza household on Friday night in what the political family said was a hostage-taking attempt.

The victim’s son and namesake, Noel, denied this in an interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The Orate family lawyer, Eduardo Bringas, said they would ask the courts to order a reinvestigation at the prosecutors’ level apart from an investigation to be conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation.
