Donayre withdraws from Fight Ground

04:51 PM February 13, 2012

ONE week before his much anticipated fight against Romelo “Mad Dog” Esfra, undefeated mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Vaughn “The Spawn” Donayre decided to pull out from the Fight Ground Championships 3, which will be held at the Mandaue Sports Complex this Friday.

Donayre, who is a contract fighter of the Universal Reality Combat Championships (URCC), was instructed by his manager to withdraw from his fight since Fight Ground 3 is considered a qualifying tournament for the Pacific Xtreme Combat (PXC) in Manila.

This developed after Back Fist Promotion president Joseph Lanuza and the people behind PXC recently joined forces.

With this, Esfra will instead be defending his 149-lbs division title against Paulino Torre Jr., also a champion of several MMA competitions in the country.

PXC is well known for using an octagon ring and bringing in foreign fighters from the Pacific region.

Since the FGC-3 is now under PXC Extreme, it will also be using an octagon ring.

The eight supporting bouts in the undercard will serve as an elimination fight for a chance to fight in the PXC Extreme in Manila. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
