PH’s active COVID-19 cases top 61,000 again with 6,833 more cases

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported an additional 6,833 COVID-19 cases on Friday, to again bring the total number of active cases in the country to over 61,000.

The total number of active COVID-19 cases in the country is now at 61,776 according to DOH data. The figure represents 4.6 percent of all the 1,346,276 confirmed cases in the country.

Meanwhile, another 3,441 patients have recovered, raising the number of recoveries to 1,261,115, or 93.7 percent of all the confirmed cases.

However, another 110 patients have died, pushing the COVID-19 death count to 23,385, or 1.74 percent of all the infections.

The DOH said 12.6 percent of the 43,635 people who were tested were found positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday.

According to the health department, all laboratories were operational on Wednesday while five laboratories were not able to submit their data. Based on data in the last 14 days, the five non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 2.6 percent of samples tested and 4.4 percent of positive individuals.

Fourteen duplicate entries, including 10 recoveries and one death, were removed from the total case count. The DOH said thirty cases initially tagged as recoveries also have been validated to be active cases and 60 cases tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after validation.
