MANILA, Philippines — Former senators Francis “Chiz” Escudero and Loren Legarda will likely seek a return to the Senate in 2022 under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), party acting chairman Senate President Vicente Sotto III said Wednesday.
“There are going to be members of the NPC that will run for the Senate, most probably. Loren Legarda, Chiz Escudero, [Senator] Sherwin Gatchalian, perhaps one or two more for NPC,” Sotto said in an INQside Look interview.
The NPC, however, will not field its own slate of 12 senatorial candidates for 2022.
“The last time we talked, yes, she’s considering,” the Senate President when further asked about Legarda’s possible return to the Senate.
“She feels more comfortable in the Senate than in the House, I think. That’s only my opinion, she did not say anything like that, it’s only my deduction,” he added.
Escudero is currently the governor of Sorsogon while Legarda serves as House deputy speaker and Representative of the Lone District of Antique. Gatchalian is an incumbent member of the Senate.
Sotto earlier admitted that he is thinking about running for vice president but reiterated that he is still consulting with several sectors on his plans for 2022.
