Woman gunned down in Mandaue bakery

A woman was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding assailants in barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City.

Police are still investigating possible motives in the killing of Cherry Justalero, 34, a resident of barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

Police said the woman was engaged in buying and selling used oil.

Police said the victim’s husband, Rodolfo Justalero Jr. was shot dead in October last year in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental.

Police said Cherry was with her business partner Pantaleon Sandot, 52, of barangay Cambaro, Mandaue when the attack occurred around 2 p.m. yesterday.

Police said Cherry and Sandot went to a bakery on N. Cabahug Street where they were supposed to meet someone who planned to sell 10 drums of used oil.

Police said Cherry and Sandot were having a snack when someone opened fire.

Cherry fell from her seat with a gunshot wound in the abdomen.

Sandot said he saw two men on a motorcycle sped off after the attack. The backrider, believed to be the gunman, covered his face with cloth. The driver wore a crash helmet.

A tricycle driver who was in the area during the attack said the assailant used a red XRM motorcycle marked only with “For Registration”.

Cherry was rushed to the Cortes General Hospital in Mandaue. She was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City but did not make it alive./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
