MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has warned the public against pyramid sales schemes that are being heavily marketed on social media, after receiving 28 complaints as of April.

The DTI-Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (FTEB) issued the warning on Tuesday as the number of complaints rose “more than two-fold compared to the 12 reported complaints received last year.”

The scheme, DTI-FTEB said, promises high returns on investment in a short period of time.

Consumers are urged to report businesses engaged in pyramid sales schemes by calling 1-DTI (1-384) hotline or email consumercare@dti.gov.ph.
