MANILA, Philippines — The daily count of COVID-19 fatalities is back to more than 100 again with the Department of Health (DOH) reporting 118 new deaths on Tuesday.

The latest number was a notable increase from Monday’s 57 deaths, as the country’s total casualties from COVID-19 since the pandemic started last year nears 23,000 hitting 22,963 as of June 15.

According to DOH, the toll represents 1.73 percent of the recorded 1.327 million COVID-19 infections across the country.

Earlier, DOH numbers showed that active COVID-19 cases slightly went down at 58,063 after more recovered patients were documented than people getting the deadly new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. DOH said in its report on Tuesday that 6,667 individuals survived while 5,389 contracted the disease.
