MANILA, Philippines —The country’s active COVID-19 cases took a slight downturn to 58,063 as of Tuesday, June 15, after the Department of Health (DOH) reported more recoveries.

Figures from the DOH showed that while 5,389 new infections were recorded, there were 6,667 new recoveries that pushed down the number of active cases that were recorded at 59,096 last Monday.

At present, there are 1,246,405 patients who have recovered from COVID-19, while the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country is now at 1,327,431.

Most of the patients or 91.8 percent of active cases have mild symptoms, while 3.8 percent were asymptomatic.  At least 1.8 percent of the patients currently have severe symptoms while 1.3 percent are in critical condition.

Of the 30,472 tests conducted from June 13, DOH said 13.9 percent have tested positive.

In terms of COVID-19 bed capacity in the National Capital Region, 46 percent of intensive care unit beds have been utilized while 36 percent of isolation beds are occupied.  Across the country, 59 percent of ICU beds for COVID-19 patients are occupied, while 47 percent of isolation beds are being used.

The DOH said that all laboratories were operational on June 13, but 16 of them were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.  Sixteen laboratories have contributed to around 5.5 percent of all the samples tested, and 7.1 percent of all the positive cases based on data from the last 14 days.

There were also nine duplicate entries removed from the total case count, of which four are under-recoveries.  Two other cases were removed from the total count after confirmatory tests revealed that they were negative for the coronavirus.

Aside from this, 304 cases that were previously classified as recoveries were reclassified as active cases, while 65 recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
