MANILA, Philippines — Western parts of Luzon may see cloudy skies and isolated rains again due to the southwest monsoon while most areas within the country would enjoy better weather conditions, state meteorologists said on Monday afternoon.
The latest weather reports from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that provinces in Ilocos Region, plus the western parts of Central Luzon which include Zambales and Bataan would be most affected by the southwest monsoon or habagat.
Pagasa said rains may also persist in other provinces but these would be isolated and would last for a few minutes only.
“Sa natitirang bahagi naman ng ating bansa, bahagyang maulap hanggang sa maulap, may tsansa rin ng ilang pulo-pulong dagliang pag-ulan na dulot naman ng mga localized thunderstorms,” senior weather specialist Chris Perez said.
(For the remaining parts of the country, it would be partly cloudy to cloudy, with a chance of isolated but short rains caused by localized thunderstorms.)
“So after ilang araw na nag-uulan dito sa ilang bahagi ng ating bansa particular na sa Visayas at Mindanao area, within the next three days ay inaasahan naman natin na, kung magkakaroon ng pag-ulan ay isolated rain showers na lamang,” he added.
(So after several days of rains in some parts of the country in particular for Visayas and Mindanao, within the next three days we are expecting that if there would be rain showers, these would only be isolated.)
Due to the habagat, temperatures over western Luzon would be slightly lower for Tuesday, at 24 to 31 degrees Celsius for Laoag, 17 to 25 degrees for Baguio City, 25 to 32 degrees for Metro Manila, 20 to 30 degrees for Tagaytay, and 25 to 31 degrees for Puerto Princesa.
In contrast, Tuguegarao would still be hot at 25 to 36 degrees Celsius, while Legazpi would feel something around 24 to 32 degrees.
Visayas and Mindanao would have warmer weather, with Tacloban, Cebu, and Davao expected to register temperatures of 25 to 32 degrees Celsius, Iloilo and Zamboanga with 25 to 33 degrees, and Cagayan de Oro with 24 to 32 degrees.
Pagasa also said that based on the wind and rainfall forecasts from the global spectral model, no tropical cyclone would emerge in the next two to three days. However, rains may be felt over the western parts of Luzon, and over the coastal areas of Mindanao.
No gale warning has been raised as of now but sea conditions over the western and northern seaboards of Luzon would be moderate to rough, whereas the whole eastern seaboard would be moderate. The rest of the country’s waters would have a slight to moderate condition.
