Dumaguete City is pandemic’s ‘area of most serious concern’ outside NCR Plus — OCTA

MANILA, Philippines — Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental is the “area of most serious concern” outside the NCR Plus after it registered surge in COVID-19 cases and average daily attack rate (ADAR), the OCTA Research group said Monday.

Dumaguete City recorded a 129 percent increase in new COVID-19 cases in one week, with an average of 95 new cases from June 7 to 13, more than double the previous week’s average of 42 new cases daily.

The city’s ADAR, meanwhile, is at 70 per 100,000 population, which is classified “extremely high risk.”

The city also recorded an 84-percent ICU bed utilization rate and 68 percent overall hospital bed utilization rate (HBUR).

Other areas of concern

Other areas of concern due to increasing cases and high hospital occupancy and ADAR include Iloilo City, Butuan City, Tacloban City and Polomolok.

Iloilo City recorded a 13 percent COVID-19 case growth rate in one week, an ADAR of 27 per 100,000 population, and 99 percent ICU utilization.

Polomolok, meanwhile, recorded a 70 percent one week case growth rate. The LGU also tallied an ADAR of 20.22 and 77 percent HBUR.

Butuan, on the other hand, logged a 48 percent one week case growth rate, 18.84 ADAR, 77 percent HBUR and 60 percent ICU utilization.

Tacloban also saw a 65-percent one week case growth rate, 15.68 ADAR, 83 percent HBUR, and 73 percent ICU utilization.

Meanwhile, OCTA Research also tagged Tagum City, Legazpi City, and Tagbilaran City as among the emerging hotspots due to rapid one-week growth rates or very high ADAR.

ICU bed occupancy is likewise at a critical level or above 85 percent in the cities of Davao, Iloilo, General Santos, Tuguegarao, and Koronadal, according to the research group.
