CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Guillermo Eleazar has assured that quarantine control points will still be maintained at primary checkpoints nationwide as it remains one of the most effective ways to curb the spread of COVID-19 across borders.
Eleazar was in Isabela and Nueva Vizcaya for various projects and programs where he administered the oath-taking of advocacy support groups and the opening of the PNP Barangayanihan Help and Food Bank for two provinces.
He also led the groundbreaking of the multi-purpose extension building of the provincial police office, the opening of the PNP Training Center, and the ribbon-cutting and blessing of the new firing range in Isabela.
He earlier ordered the “unhampered passage of vehicles carrying essential goods or those on important or essential travel” but “random inspections of cars have been regularly being done.”
“The PNP will maintain heightened measures on border control points,” he said in a news briefing.
On the issue of shabu prevalence, as stated in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime report, Eleazar said operations by the police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency have made a dent in the illegal drug trade, citing as an example, the P68 million worth of shabu (crystal meth) seized in a buy-bust in Cebu City on Friday, June 11.
Eleazar also ordered tighter border security measures to prevent the entry of illegal drugs into the country.
