PH logs 137 new COVID-19 deaths, total now at 22,788 — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines on Sunday reported 137 new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the death toll to 22,788, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

DOH also noted that there were 65 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The total number of deaths is 1.73 percent of all cases, according to the Health Department.

The caseload is now at 1,315,639 after DOH reported 7,302 new COVID-19 cases.

Of the total cases, 59,865 infections or 4.6 percent are still tagged as “active cases” but most of them only have mild or have no symptoms at 95.7 percent.

There are also 7,701 who recuperated from the disease, bringing the recovery count to 1,232,986, or 93.7 percent of all cases.

DOH said all laboratories were operational but one was not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Philippines is only behind Indonesia in terms of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia with 1,901,490 cases, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker.

The country is also second in deaths in the region, only behind Indonesia with 52,730 recorded mortalities.

As of posting, the global cases reached 175.6 million including 3.7 million deaths, according to the tracker.
