MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) has reported that 191,117 workers were displaced from 6,602 establishments between January and May 30 due to disruptions caused by COVID-19.
The DOLE job displacement monitoring report released recently also showed that of the 6,602 establishments, 5,714 or 86.5 percent reduced their workforce while 888 or 13.5 percent permanently shut down.
February had the highest number of workforce displacements with 1,743 or 26 percent of establishments letting go of 46,518 workers.
The National Capital Region, the area hardest hit by the pandemic, recorded the most number of displaced workers with 114,178 or 57.9 percent of all displaced workers during the said period. —PATRICIA DENISE M. CHIU
