PH’s active COVID-19 cases now at 54,000 with 5,462 new infections

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported additional 5,462 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, putting the number of active cases to 54,000.

The DOH said there are now 1,286,217 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, of which 4.2 percent remain active. Of the active cases, 95.6 percent are mild and asymptomatic.

There were also additional 7,854 new recoveries, raising the number of patients who have survived the disease to 1,210,027.

However, another 126 people have died, pushing the death toll to 22,190, or 1.73 percent of all the cases.

The DOH said 12.6 percent of the 39,788 people who went through COVID-19 testing tested positive last June 7.

All testing laboratories were operational on June 7 while eight laboratories were not able to submit their data. Based on data in the last 14 days, the eight non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 2.1 percent of samples tested and 2.7 percent of COVID-19 positive individuals.

Meanwhile, 18 duplicate entries, including 14 recoveries, were removed from the total case count, and 70 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
