71 more COVID-19 patients die; PH toll nearing 22,000

MANILA, Philippines — The country’s COVID-19 death toll is moving closer to the 22,000 mark as the Department of Health (DOH) reported Monday the passing of 71 more patients.

According to DOH’s latest bulletin, 21,969 deaths were recorded across the country as of June 7 – or since the new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, pandemic reached the Philippines in 2020.

DOH, however, noted that the sum COVID-19 death count represents just 1.72 percent of the total 1.276 million documented infections.

Monday’s death tally report of 71 was lower than the recorded number of fatalities on June 4 at 181, June 5 at 195, and June 6 at 166.

DOH’s June 7 report likewise noted that current COVID-19 infections nationwide went down a bit at 58,584 active cases due to the recovery of 6,969 patients.
