LUCENA CITY –– A 45-year-old fisherman was shot and killed over an unpaid cash debt in Padre Burgos town in Quezon province Sunday.

Padre Burgos police in a report said that the suspect, another fisherman Honorio Alano, 59, waited for the arrival of the victim, Marson Mabasa, in a house in Barangay Rizal at 5:40 p.m.

When the two finally met, a heated argument ensued that prompted the suspect, who was drunk, to draw his handgun and repeatedly shoot the victim. The suspect escaped after the shooting.

Mabasa suffered fatal bullet wounds and died while being taken to the Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City.

Lt. Randy Buenaventura, Padre Burgos police chief, said the possible motive behind the killing was an unspecified amount of money that Mabasa owed to Alano.

“The debt was a long time ago and still not yet paid,” Buenaventura said in a phone interview Monday.

Police are conducting a manhunt operation to arrest Alano.
