MANILA, Philippines — The government confiscated more than P100 million worth of smuggled frozen meat and assorted agri-fishery products in Metro Manila last month, with about half of the shipments containing pork infected with the African swine fever (ASF).

The Department of Trade and Industry said various frozen meat and agricultural food products — such as beef, Peking duck, black chicken, eel, dory fish fillet, crawfish, jumbo shrimps, scallops, and ASF-infected pork — were found inside 12 refrigerated container vans that were parked in an empty lot in Barangay San Rafael, Navotas City, on May 28.

The seizure was made in coordination with the Department of Agriculture, the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police.
