SPORTS patron and Cebu City Sports Commission chairman Edward Hayco was invited to become the speaker of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Sports Summit slated Feb. 24 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Last year, PSC chairman Ricardo “Ritchie” Garcia visited Cebu City to see the city’s progressive sports grassroots program and also to support Hayco’s mega-project—the Guiness World Record attempt to break the biggest chess tournament.
Because of this, Garcia was convinced to adapt Cebu City’s grassroots program on sports. This led to the summit, which will be attended by 1,000 sports heads from around the country.
“I am very proud of this program of Cebu City because we contributed to the sports community in the country and we’re able to leave a legacy,” said Hayco.
CCSC consultant Dr. Danilo Villadolid and Brando Velasquez will accompany Hayco in the summit.
Hayco said Garcia and the PSC showed interest after he and his staff showed them a power point presentation about the sports grassroots program.
Hayco added this gives Cebu more reason to be proud since all of the people behind the grassroots program are Cebuano volunteers who shared their knowledge in sports.
The sports grassroots program in Cebu will officially kick off after Holy Week this April.
