Man who killed 2 daughters shot, wounded by cops in Catanduanes

LEGAZPI CITY –– Two girls were hacked to death Wednesday by their father, who was later injured after police shot him inside their home in Baras town, Catanduanes province, police said Thursday.

Lt. Col. Edgar Clerigo, Catanduanes police information officer, said in a report that the suspect, identified only as Rol, 45, stabbed his 8-year-old and 9-year-old daughters in their house in Barangay Western Poblacion at 10:30 p.m.

The suspect allegedly tried to attack the responding police officers using a knife, prompting the latter to shoot him in the right leg.

The policemen rushed the young sisters to the Bato Maternity Hospital but were dead before they reached it.

The mother of the victims is working abroad, the police said.

The suspect was also brought to a hospital in Virac for treatment.

The police were still investigating the motive behind the incident.
