MANILA, Philippines — After logging the highest COVID-19 cases a few months ago, Pasay City now has the lowest number of cases in Metro Manila.

As of June 1 data, Pasay only has 59 active cases, the lowest it has recorded since February before the local surge brought by more infectious coronavirus variants.

Other local governments in the National Capital Region with the lowest ratio of active to confirmed cases were Navotas and Marikina (both 0.9 percent) and Malabon (1.06 percent).

In a statement on Wednesday, Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano lauded the police for their work in enforcing health protocols and residents for their cooperation.

The mayor rallied her constituents to “strive hard” until the city attains their goal of zero new cases. Despite the decrease in its COVID-19 cases, the city maintained granular lockdowns in barangays.
