Dante leaves 3 dead, threatens another landfall

MANILA, Philippines—Tropical storm Dante (Choi-wan) has left at least three people dead and one missing after it struck Mindanao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday (June 2).

A year-old child was killed in Davao de Oro in a landslide. In Davao del Sur, a 71-year-old man was swept away by strong currents.

A 14-year-old girl was killed in South Cotabato, but the NDRRMC said it was still waiting for details.

Dante was last spotted 115 kilometers southeast of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, carrying maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the ceneter and gusts of up to 90 kph.

It was moving northwest at 25 kph.

Dante is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains over parts of Luzon and Visayas. According to forecast track of the weather bureau, it might make another landfall in Bataan on Wednesday night. It will then head to the Zambales and Pangasinan area and then move to the West Philippine Sea on Thursday morning (June 3).
