SAN ANTONIO, Zambales –– Another policeman in this province tested positive Monday for COVID-19 and was among the 13 new cases, an official said.

Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, said the 34-year-old police officer showed some symptoms of the disease, such as cough and sore throat.

It was not immediately known how the police got the virus, but he could have been exposed to virus-afflicted colleagues.

Also infected with COVID-19 were three workers inside the Subic Bay Freeport. They were all exposed to their infected co-workers.

The new infections brought to 427 the total number of active COVID-19 cases in the province.

Bueno said 13 recoveries were reported on the same day, raising the total number of people who had healed from COVID-19 to 1,993. The death toll remained at 53.

To date, 2,474 COVID-19 cases had been listed in the province since the pandemic started last year.
