Over 95,000 violations of face mask rule recorded from May 17 to 30
MANILA, Philippines — More than 95,000 violations of the requirement to wear face masks were recorded from May 17 to May 30, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año reported Monday.
According to Año, there were 95,357 violations recorded during the time frame, with most of the violators being given warnings.
In his report, Año said that of the violators 50,204 were warned, 34,683 were fined, 6,813 were directed to do community service, and 3,657 were arrested.
Aside from this, Año said there were also 1,697 violations of the prohibition on mass gatherings and 28.553 violations of physical distancing rules.
“Regarding effort to maintain the safety and security of everyone during this time of a pandemic, the rise of recorded violations is very noticeable,” Año said in Filipino. “This is because of the order to be strict in catching and calling out those who are not wearing masks.”
He said the DILG, the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) would release guidelines on violations of minimum public health standards on Tuesday.
