Tropical Depression Dante enters PAR, rainy Sunday due in parts of Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines – The tropical depression brewing east of Mindanao entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) at 1 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“Pumasok na ng ating area of responsibility ang isang bagyo at pinangalanan ho natin itong si Dante,” said Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin De La Cruz.

(A storm has entered PAR has been named Dante.)

She added that “Dante” was the low pressure being monitored since Thursday, which developed into a tropical depression Saturday night.

Tracking Dante

De la Cruz said that the eye of the storm was last located 1000 kilometers (km) east of Mindanao.

It has maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour (kph) , and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

The tropical depression is currently moving west northwest at 15kph and is expected to maintain its course until Monday morning, before heading northwest.

It currently is not likely to make landfall. 

No tropical cyclone signals or wind signals are currently raised in the country.

Pagasa also said that Dante, the fourth weather disturbance to enter PAR this year,  may develop into a tropical storm by Monday afternoon.

Wet Sunday in parts of Mindanao, cloudy in Luzon

“Dante” is expected to bring rains to parts of Mindanao, particularly, the Caraga, Davao and Soccsksargen regions.

“Asahan ang mataas na tiyansa ng mga pag-ulan at pag-kidlat sa araw na ito, dulot ‘yan ng trough nitong si Bagyong Dante,” she said.

(Expect high chance of rain, lightning and thunder today, due to the trough of Dante.)

Pagasa added that Luzon will have cloudy skies and possible isolated rain showers and thundertorms.

Metro Manila: 26 to 35 degrees Celsius

Baguio City: 18 to 25 degrees Celsius

Laoag City:  25 to 33 degrees Celsius

Tuguegarao: 27 to 40 degrees Celsius

Legazpi City: 27 to 34 degrees Celsius

Puerto Princesa City: 26 to 32 degrees Celsius

Tagaytay: 21 to 31 degrees Celsius

Kalayaan Islands: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius

Iloilo City: 26 to 32 degrees Celsius

Cebu: 26 to 33 degrees Celsius

Tacloban City: 26 to 32 degrees Celsius

Cagayan De Oro City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius

Zamboanga City: 24 to 33 degrees Celsius
