5 more PMMA cadets in Zambales get COVID-19

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — Five more cadets in the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) in San Narciso town had tested positive for COVID-19, an official said on Thursday, May 27.

In a statement, Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, said the cadets, who were among the 53 new COVID-19 infections in the province, were exposed to their fellow cadets, who had earlier contracted the virus

The academy was placed on lockdown on May 23 following the first COVID-19 infection there. To date, at least nine cadets there were already infected with the virus.

Among other cases in the province on Thursday were patients aged 5 to 85, who got the virus from their workplaces or were exposed to their infected relatives.

Bueno said 29 more patients had recovered Thursday from COVID-19, raising the total number of recoveries to 1,950.

The province now has reported a total of 2,264 COVID-19 cases since last year, and 260 of these were still active. Its death toll remained at 53. INQ
