MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law a bill that lowers the minimum height requirement for police and other uniformed personnel.
Republic Act No. 11549 amends the Philippine National Police (PNP) chapter that sets the minimum requirement at 1.62 meters for male and 1.57 meters for female applicants to the national police force, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
Under the new law, the minimum height requirement for male applicants will be lowered to 1.57 meters and female applicants to 1.52 meters.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is tasked to promulgate the rules and regulations necessary to implement the new law, along with the Civil Service Commission, National Police Commission, the PNP, BFP, BJMP and BuCor.
The law shall take effect 15 days after publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation.
On March 15, the House of Representatives and the Senate adopted the bicameral conference committee report on the disagreeing provisions of Senate Bill No. 1563 and House Bill No. 8261 in their respective plenary sessions.
