DAGUPAN CITY –– Mayor Brian Lim on Tuesday announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and sought treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the city.
In a statement, he said his doctors told him that he was suffering from mild pneumonia and had to stay in the hospital’s isolation room.
Lim said he was exposed to a virus-infected person and immediately underwent quarantine. The result of his antigen test showed he was reactive to the virus.
He then underwent a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test, and its result confirmed that he had acquired the virus.
Lim said he was thankful that he had been vaccinated with two doses of the CoronaVac vaccine, which prevented him from experiencing severe COVID-19 symptoms.
He encouraged Dagupeños to avail themselves of the vaccines, saying the vaccination rollout is ongoing at the city’s Astrodome.
“Let us be reminded that we are still under a pandemic. This is why the national government is fervently pushing for the vaccination,” Lim said.
He added: “This is also the reason we continuously urge the observance of the minimum health standards like wearing of face masks and shields and avoiding crowded areas, and regularly washing hands with soap and water.”
