Bicol records highest number of new COVID-19 cases in single day

LEGAZPI CITY –– The Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol said that 206 people on Sunday got infected with COVID-19 in the region, the highest number recorded so far since the pandemic started last year.

Authorities renewed the call to the public to take the necessary precautions to prevent the further spread of the virus after DOH Bicol said the active cases in the region now total 2,921.

The agency also recorded 19 recoveries and three deaths on Sunday.

The COVID bulletin said Camarines Sur province had the highest number of cases, with 116.  These cases are in 20 towns and the cities of Naga (29) and Iriga (seven).

Albay had 49 cases affecting 10 towns, with Legazpi City logging 23.

Sorsogon had 30 cases, Catanduanes, 10, and one transient from Antipolo City.

As of May 22, Bicol has logged 10,555 cases since March last year with 7,259 recoveries and 375 deaths.

The DOH renewed its call to the public to be more vigilant as the spike in the COVID-19 cases continued due to community transmission and weak enforcement of the minimum public health standards.
