‘Meals on wheels:” Youth group serves free meals in Tuguegarao City neighborhood
TUGUEGARAO CITY- Around 1,000 families received free meals from youth leaders who organized a week-long food drive here on Saturday.
Volunteers for “Meals on Wheels Para sa Masa” in Barangay Annafunan used a tricycle with a large cauldron full of food to feed villagers, said Gerald Valdez, Annafunan East Sangguniang Kabataan president.
The free meal distribution will run until May 27.
“The preparation is tedious but with the thought of helping less-fortunate people in the village, we do missionary work like this one,” Valdez told the Inquirer.
He said they had earmarked P10,000 for the meals.
His group had earlier put up a community pantry and distributed vegetables, groceries and rice to villagers.
Arlene Catawiran, a 28-year-old villager, was among those who benefited from the project.
She said her husband, a construction worker, saw their combined income dwindle during the pandemic due to reduced work days.
“This meal is a big help and we salute the youths who share food with us,” she added.
