PH records 6,831 new COVID-19 cases; 7,981 recoveries

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 6,831 new COVID-19 infections and almost 8,000 recoveries on Saturday.

According to the DOH’s COVID-19 bulletin, the country’s active case count now stands at 54,236. The figure is slightly lower than the 55,531 cases reported last Friday because of the 7,981 recoveries.

The total recovery count is now at 1,103,945. In total, the country now has 1,178,217 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Of this number, 93.6 percent of patients have mild symptoms while 1.9 percent are asymptomatic.  At least 1.9 percent of the patients currently have severe symptoms while 1.4 percent are in critical condition.

Of the 48,824 tests conducted since May 20, the DOH said 13 percent tested positive.  In terms of COVID-19 bed capacity in the National Capital Region, 61 percent of intensive care unit beds have been utilized while 40 percent of isolation beds are occupied.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational from May 20, but three were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).
