Cloudy skies to continue in Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao due to ITCZ

The intertropical convergence zone still lingers over the Visayas and affects the Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, and most of Visayas and Mindanao.

MANILA, Philippines — Southern parts of the country would continue to experience cloudy skies and isolated rain showers due to cloud bands brought by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), state meteorologists said on Friday afternoon.

Reports from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that the ITCZ still lingers over the Visayas, and affects Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, and most of Visayas and Mindanao.

Rains are expected in some areas even if no low-pressure area or tropical cyclone affects the country’s weather systems.

But for the Northern and Central Luzon plus Metro Manila, the weather would continue to be hot and humid due to the easterlies.  This would result in high temperatures again for Saturday, with Tuguegarao’s 26 to 39 degrees Celsius, Metro Manila with 26 to 35 degrees, Laoag with 26 to 33 degrees, and Tagaytay with 22 to 32 degrees.

The chance of rain remains low for the above-mentioned areas, but for Puerto Princesa and Legazpi, rains may occur as the ITCZ affects these areas, which would have maximum daytime temperatures of just 31 degrees Celsius.

For Visayas and Mindanao, Iloilo and Tacloban would have temperatures 25 to 31 degrees Celsius, Cebu with 26 to 31 degrees, Cagayan de Oro with 23 to 32 degrees, Zamboanga with 24 to 32 degrees, and Davao with 25 to 32 degrees.

No gale warning has been raised as of now, Pagasa says, despite the ITCZ bringing thunderstorm activity to a wide area.  This means fisherfolk and small boat operators can set sail in any part of the country.
