‘Now showing:’ Taguig turns posh cinemas into vaccination hubs

MANILA, Philippines — The Taguig City government on Wednesday opened its ninth vaccination site, turning premium cinemas into vaccination hubs, as the local government aims to reach a target of 5,000 daily inoculation against COVID-19 beginning next week.

Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano, through a private company partnership, launched the Venice Grand Canal Mall vaccination hub.

The mall’s Cinema 1 and 5 had been transformed into a site where health workers can administer the initial 200 shots, the city’s public information office told INQUIRER.net.

The city’s goal is to vaccinate a target of 400 individuals at the cinema vaccination hubs in the coming days.

“We have a good number of vaccine supplies as of now. We were told by the national government that there will be more in June,” Cayetano said in a statement.

“With that, the job of the LGU is to make sure that vaccination is safe, fast, and accessible. The city of Taguig wants to focus on those three things. So, we will continue to aggressively plan our vaccination rollout,” he added.

Cayetano also reminded that only those with confirmed vaccination schedules can be accommodated in the city’s vaccination sites, as walk-ins would not be entertained.

Citizens can schedule their own vaccination appointment online.

There are eight other vaccination sites in Taguig located at SM Aura, Lakeshore area, Vista Mall Parking Building and Bonifacio Global City’s Bonifacio High Street.

There are also four community vaccine centers at the RP Cruz Elementary School, Maharlika Elementary School, EM’s Signal Village Elementary School, and Western Bicutan National High School.

A total of 54,287 individuals who are part of the priority sectors have been vaccinated as of Tuesday.
