11 mining firm workers in Zambales test positive for COVID-19

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales –– At least 11 mining company employees in Sta. Cruz town were infected with COVID-19 Thursday, an official said.

Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, said the infected include an engineer, two community relation officers, an administrative officer, and an accounting clerk.

The company’s survey supervisor, warehouse supervisor, statistician, utility worker, laundry attendant, and a security guard had also tested positive for COVID-19.

All the company’s employees were subjected to COVID-19 tests after the purchasing assistant contracted the virus on April 23.

Bueno said the site is now temporarily shut down since the first case was detected there.

The new cases in the mining company were among the 20 new reported COVID-19 infections in the province on Thursday.

Bueno said the number of recoveries has now reached 1,802 as 50 more patients recovered from the disease that day.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 remained at 51.

Zambales now has a total of 2,000 cases since the pandemic started. INQ
