Rain to persist in Visayas, Mindanao due to LPA, ICTZ – Pagasa
MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies and rain showers may continue over the southern portions of the country due to the prevailing intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), and the emergence of a low-pressure area (LPA).
A bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Tuesday afternoon showed that the LPA last spotted 640 kilometers east of Davao City is embedded in the ITCZ, or the convergence of winds from the northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere.
Satellite images indicated that cloud clusters affect Visayas and Mindanao, and even the southern portions of Luzon which means isolated thunderstorms would persist in the coming hours and even probably over the next few days.
For Wednesday, a big part of Luzon will experience hot and humid weather as the easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean continues to blow across the area, according to Pagasa. Temperatures over Tuguegarao will be a scorching 26 to 38 degrees Celsius while Metro Manila will feel it at 26 to 35 degrees Celsius, Laoag and Legazpi at 26 to 33 degrees Celsius, and Puerto Princesa at slightly lower temperatures of 25 to 31 degrees Celsius.
As for Visayas and Mindanao, due to the LPA and ITCZ, slightly colder weather may likely prevail on Wednesday. Tacloban, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao will have temperatures of 25 to 32 degrees Celsius while Cebu and Zamboanga will have 26 to 31 degrees Celsius, Pagasa said.
Meanwhile, no gale warning has been raised despite the weather disturbances although the eastern waters of Mindanao are predicted to have a moderate condition. Sea situations for the rest of the country, Pagasa noted, will be slight to moderate.
