DOH logs 4,734 new COVID-19 infections; active cases now at 56,752
MANILA, Philippines — The number of active COVID-19 cases in the country is now at 56,752 after the Department of Health (DOH) logged 4,734 new infections on Tuesday.
The DOH also logged 7,837 new recoveries, bringing the total recoveries to 1,038,175 while the death toll rose to 18,620 with 59 new fatalities.
All in all, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines is at 1,113,547.
DOH said the relatively lower number of new cases recorded on Tuesday is due to the low number of samples received by laboratories and the non-submission of 12 laboratories on May 9.
DOH said it removed 13 duplicates from the total case count, including 10 recoveries and one death.
Moreover, DOH said 19 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
