BACOLOD CITY –– The Department of Health (DOH) on May 10 downgraded this city’s COVID-19 risk classification from high to moderate, while Negros Occidental remains a low-risk area despite an increase in the number of cases in the province.
Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, in an online briefing on the COVID-19 situation in Western Visayas, said Bacolod’s classification was lowered because the average daily attack rate per 100,000 population had dropped.
She said Bacolod’s daily attack rate from April 26 to May 9 dropped to 8.35 percent from 9.47 percent during the previous 14 days.
Negros Occidental’s daily attack rate from April 26 to May 9 also dropped to 4.73 percent from 4.94 percent during the previous 14 days to maintain its low-risk classification.
The DOH reported that Negros Occidental had 2,738 active COVID-19 cases, while Bacolod had 946 as of Monday.
Te reminded the public not to let their guard down even if they have been vaccinated against the virus.
