A man on vacation in Jilin, China was left dangling from a glass bridge after its panels were shattered by strong winds.

The incident happened near the Piyan Mountain resort on Friday, May 7. The tourist (name withheld) managed to hold on to the bridge’s railings for about 35 minutes, as per local news outlet Xinhua Net on Saturday, May 8.

The bridge was damaged by winds that blew at 150 kilometers per hour and the man got stranded on it, 100 meters off the ground. He was assisted by on-site personnel to get back up to safety and has been sent to a hospital for psychological counseling.

While there were no casualties from the incident, the report noted that users from the Chinese microblogging site Weibo raised concerns about safety on glass bridges in the country.

One netizen was said to have questioned how often the structure was being maintained, while another asked how the local government can ensure public safety on glass bridges.

The resort has been closed while the case is under investigation. The local government will also reportedly conduct a safety inspection of all tourist attractions in the city. Dana Cruz/JB
