PNP records 158 new COVID-19 cases, 1 death
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported 158 new cases of COVID-19 and one more fatality, bringing its death toll to 57 as of May 4.
The PNP Health Service (PNPHS) has updated its COVID-19 case count to 20,769, including 1,626 with active status.
The latest death in the PNP was a 31-year-old police corporal assigned in Nueva Ecija, according to PNP Chief Police General Debold Sinas.
Earlier, Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, the PNP deputy chief for administration, said the noncommissioned officer was assigned to the Central Luzon Police Regional Office.

Article continues after this advertisementThe officer tested positive on April 27 and was brought to a hospital on May 3 after experiencing difficulty in breathing and muscle cramps, according to the bulletin.
Article continues after this advertisementIt said the cop died the day after, May 4, due to acute respiratory failure and pneumonia.
“Our deepest condolences to the bereaved family. As front liners in fighting this unseen enemy, some of our police officers are putting their lives on the line; I salute you all!” Sinas said in a statement.
The PNP also reported 172 new recoveries, increasing the count to 19,086 recoveries as of May 4, according to the PNPHS.
Overall, the country reported as of Tuesday 1,067,892 cases of COVID-19, with 17,622 deaths and 984,210 recoveries.
