DOH: Side effects of Sputnik V similar to other vaccines

MANILA, Philippines — Recipients of Sputnik V vaccines are likely to experience side effects that are similar to other vaccines, the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said a total of 2,634 individuals were vaccinated with Sputnik V in three Metro Manila cities on Tuesday.

“Based on the studies of the vaccine experts panel, commonly ang side effect ng Sputnik V vaccine would be pain in the inoculation site, ‘yung more common symptoms na nararamdaman din ng mga kababayan natin sa ibang mga bakuna, ‘yung parang tinatrangkaso, masakit ang katawan, masakit ang ulo,” she said in an online press briefing.

(Based on the studies of the vaccine experts panel, the common side effects of the Sputnik V vaccine are pain in the inoculation site, as well as the other common symptoms from other vaccine brands such as feelings of having flu, body ache, and headache.)

She stressed that despite these side effects, the Vaccine Expert Panel of the Department of Science and Technology has assured that the Russian-made vaccine is “generally safe.”

Of the individuals vaccinated with Sputnik V, 2,100 are from Parañaque, 165 are from Manila, and 369 are from Makati, according to Vergeire.

She said vaccination with the Sputnik V in the cities of Taguig and Muntinlupa is also scheduled this Wednesday.
