WIDOW STABBED, WOUNDED

A 60-YEAR-OLD widow was stabbed and wounded by her neighbor whom she accused of stealing a case of empty softdrink bottles from her sari-sari store in barangay Tisa, Cebu City.

Rose Paypa sustained stab wounds in the left shoulder and back.

The suspect, Noe Balasimo III, fled after the attack.

Before the stabbing, Paypa allegedly caught Balsimo stealing softdrink bottles outside her store in sitio Mohon 2 before noon yesterday.

Paypa went to the barangay hall to report the alleged theft.

The woman was already walking home after reporting to the barangay hall when a knife-welding Balsimo attacked her, said police.

GUARD SHOT BY ‘TOUGHIE’

A 33-YEAR-OLD security guard was shot and wounded by a cigarette vendor following a confrontation in barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City, at dawn yesterday.

Mark Dave Roco was wounded in the left hand.

The suspect was identified as a certain Brandon, who fled after the shooting.

Brandon is resident of sitio Purok 3, barangay Camputhaw.

Police said Roco was driving a motorcycle past 5 a.m. when he saw Brandon standing near a tanod outpost.

Roco parked his motorcycle and approached Brandon.

Police said Roco confronted Brandon due to reports that the suspect has been acting like a toughie in the area.

Police said a heated argument between the two men ensued.

In the middle of the argument, Brandon drew a gun from his waist and shot Roco.

Roco retaliated by hitting Brandon with a crash helmet.

Roco ran to his house on Kamagong Street in barangay Lahug. He was later brought by paramedics from the Emergency Response Unit Foundation to a Cebu City hospital. /CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL

MAN STABS IN-LAWS

A WOMAN was injured after she was stabbed by her son-in-law in barangay Basak, Mandaue City.

Arlita Pepito, 55, sustained several stab wounds in the body. Her two sons—Peter Pepito, 31, and Julius Emanuel Pepito, 26—were also stabbed when they tried to stop the suspect from stabbing their mother.

The suspect, Maxwell Guanlao, 31, remains at large, said police.

Police said Guanlao and Arlita bore personal grudges against each other.

At dawn yesterday, Guanlao and Arlita figured in a heated argument.

While arguing, Guanlao stabbed Arlita with a kitchen knife. Peter and Julius intervened but were also attacked.

The suspect fled after the stabbing.
