San Juan City converts container vans into quarantine facility

MANILA, Philippines — The San Juan City government on Friday opened a new quarantine facility that was built using repurposed shipping container vans.
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora led the blessing and opening of the facility, which has 52 rooms, each with its own bed, air conditioning unit, and toilet.

“Malaking tulong talaga yan lalo na ngayon na nararanasan natin ang medyo pagtaas ng mga kaso,” he said during the ceremony.

Article continues after this advertisementThe quarantine facility will accommodate mild and asymptomatic COVID-19 patients, he added.
Article continues after this advertisementZamora was accompanied by officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways, and Vice Mayor Warren Villa during the opening of the facility. The new quarantine facility was constructed by the DPWH, Zamora added.
Zamora said the city is currently using three quarantine facilities: the facility in San Juan Medical Center, which has 75 beds; the facility in Kalinga Center which has 139 beds; and the facility in San Juan National High School Annex Basketball Court, with 36 beds.
The new quarantine facility located in P. Guevarra Extension increases the city’s total quarantine bed capacity from 250 to 302.
As of April 29, San Juan City recorded 702 active COVID-19 cases, Zamora said.
