MANILA, Philippines — The local government of San Juan City is set to open a 52-room container van quarantine facility on Friday, April 30.
The new quarantine facility was constructed by the Department Public Works and Highways, under the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases’ We Heal As One banner.
San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora said its opening would mean the city will be able to accommodate more COVID-positive patients as it will augment the COVID beds in the city.
“I am happy that the container van facility is now done,” said Zamora in a statement on Thursday.
“This means we are much more equipped now to take on more asymptomatic patients and those who are experiencing mild symptoms so they can no longer infect their loved ones at home,” he added.
Each room in the 52-room facility has its own bed, aircon, and toilet.
Currently, the city has 250 COVID beds, 75 of which are located in San Juan Medical Center, 139 are in Kalinga Center, and 36 beds are in San Juan National High School Annex Basketball Court.
As of April 28, the city was able to bring the active cases down to 716, from its highest recorded cases of 1,226 last April 14, 2021.
Meanwhile, as of today, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in the country is at 1,028,738, with 942,239 of them tagged as recovered patients, while the death toll currently stands at 17,145.
Current active cases are at 69,354.
