Active COVID-19 cases in PH now at 69,354 after 8,276 new infections

MANILA, Philippines — The country’s number of active COVID-19 cases increased to 69,354 after the Department of Health (DOH) logged 8,276 new infections on Thursday.

The active cases is 6.7% of the country’s total caseload which is at 1,028,738, according to the DOH’s daily case bulletin. Most or 96.6% of the active cases are mild and asymptomatic.

The DOH also logged 6,636 additional recoveries, bringing the number of patients who have survived the illness to 942,239.

Recoveries represent 91.7 percent of the total tally.

However, 114 more COVID-19 patients succumbed to the disease, raising the death toll to 17,145, which is 1.67% of the total caseload.

The DOH said it removed 33 duplicates from the total case count, including 22 recoveries, while 68 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

While all laboratories were operational on April 27, one laboratory was not able to submit its data to the COVID-19 document repository system.
