MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office board member Sandra Cam has surrendered to authorities, police said.
Cam, who was indicted April 16 by the Department of Justice for the murder of Batuan vice mayor Charlie Yuson III in 2019, is now under hospital arrest, Maj. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro, director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, told reporters Thursday.
Cam’s security detail sent feelers to the police for her surrender. She surrendered to the Calabarzon police.
“May medical concern so hindi din siya basta maaalis. So sinerve natin doon tapos pending sa medical condition niya saka natin siya dadalhin sa Crame or kung saan siya pwede ilagay na custodial area,” Ferro told reporters.
Cam was reportedly in the hospital for two weeks already and is scheduled for lumbar spine surgery next week. Her medical records have been submitted to the court and police.
A Manila court issued on April 26 an arrest warrant for Cam and six others for the killing of Yuson. Cam’s son, who was also included in the arrest warrant, lost to Yuson’s son, Charmax Jan, in the 2019 mayoralty race in Batuan, Masbate.
