‘Nanlaban’: 2 Red suspects killed as CamSur cops enforce search warrants

LEGAZPI CITY—At least two suspected communist guerrillas were killed and another was arrested during police operations at the suspects’ homes in the province of Camarines Sur on Monday (April 26).

In Iriga City, Lt. Col. Paz Magistrado, city police chief, said in a report that Pablito Dosal, 43, was killed in a gunfight at the village of Sta. Maria around 4:20 a.m.

In his report, Magistrado said policemen were trying to serve a search warrant on Dosal for unlicensed firearms but Dosal ran to the back of his house to evade arrest. Magistrado said Dosal opened fire, which prompted police to fire back. Dosal died on the spot.

Magistrado said Dosal was a member of the Militia ng Bayan (People’s Militia) and Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad, a unit of New People’s Army, armed wing of Communist Party of the Philippines.

Police said found in Dosal’s house was a .45 caliber pistol with a silver magazine, five bullets and two bullet shells. Ammunition for 9 mm guns was also found.

In the town of Goa, a separate police operation led to the killing of another suspected rebel and the arrest of another.

Maj. Jeric Don Sadia, Goa police chief, said the suspect, Marlon Collantes, 39, aimed a gun at police officers serving a search warrant for unlicensed guns at Collantes’ house at the village of Payatan around 5 a.m. Police opened fire and killed Collantes on the spot.

In a separate operation, rebel suspect Jose Begonia was arrested at the same village around 6:53 a.m. The police served a search warrant on Begonia and seized a rifle grenade, a caliber .38 gun and six bullets.

Collantes, according to police, was also a member of Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad, while Begonia was tagged as a member of Militia ng Bayan, Sadia said.
