MANILA, Philippines — ABS-CBN reporter and head for radio newsgathering Edwin Sevidal, who is known on-air as Radyo Patrol 37, has passed away due to COVID-19.
ABS-CBN said Sevidal passed away on Thursday at the age of 49.
“As the head of ABS-CBN’s Radyo Patrol, he pushed for the use of mobile journalism among radio reporters, which enabled them to deliver reports for both radio, television, and online platforms without the need for bulky equipment and additional manpower,” ABS-CBN said in a statement.
“After pioneering mobile video journalism (MoJo) in DZMM Teleradyo, Sevidal also conducted mobile journalism workshops for ABS-CBN News correspondents in the Europe and Middle East bureaus. In 2019, he set up the ABS-CBN News Asia-Pacific bureau, recruiting and training correspondents from all over the region,” the network added.
Sevidal joined ABS-CBN back in 1996 as a production assistant in DZMM.
Through the course of his career, Sevidal also worked as a researcher, executive producer, and eventually a reporter for DZMM before becoming a desk editor.
According to his LinkedIn profile, among his major coverages include the Maguindanao Massacre and the death of then-Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.
Fellow ABS-CBN reporters have sent their condolences to Sevidal’s family and loved ones.
