Army finds arms cache believed left by NPA in Albay town

LEGAZPI CITY – Government forces found an arms cache that the military said was left by communist guerrillas in the town of Oas, Albay province on Wednesday (April 21).

Capt. John Paul Belleza, public affairs chief of the Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division, said while soldiers from the 49th Infantry Battalion were on combat operations, some villagers reported seeing suspicious materials left by New People’s Army guerrillas at the village of San Antonio in Oas around 3 a.m.

Belleza said among the high-powered firearms found were a caliber 5.56 Bushmaster sniper rifle and a caliber 5.56 Colt AR-15. Also found were magazines, ammunition, bandoliers and other materials.
