LIGAO CITY, Albay, Philippines — Ang Probinsiyano Rep. Alfred de los Santos urged employers on Saturday to suspend the “no work, no pay” policy for workers who had contracted COVID-19.

“This is the best time to be compassionate and helpful to everyone, particularly now that we are in a pandemic situation,” Delos Santos said in a phone interview.

Delos Santos said the suspension must be applied to workers with COVID-19 symptoms and to those who had close contact with a patient.

He said he had received complaints from contractual workers that they had salary deductions for being absent during their quarantine.

“In order to qualify and benefit for the suspension of ‘no work, no pay’ policy, the affected workers should only present a medical certificate that they will undergo quarantine procedure or have been subject of contact tracing due to COVID-19,” Delos Santos said.
